Our team, boat and origins

Liam Patton

Heather Patton

Our boat Kiah

Liam and Heather are a couple who met through gig rowing and adore everything about it, for all the excitement and benefits it can bring. They are both trained coxswains and possess the other qualification and qualities to ensure Kabincraft Adventures experiences are delivered in a safe and enjoyable way.

Their first gig is a rescue from a naval dockyard. Her name is Kiah. She was about to be scrapped but we are delighted to have restored her to her former glory and glides like a dream. Her restoration journey is well documented on our Instagram.

Pilot gigs were originally used to race a skilled ship’s pilot out to large vessels arriving in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The crew who were first to arrive at the ship would board the pilot and they would take these larger vessels safely through their onward journey, through shallow coastal waters. For this all involved would be paid a handsome fee. Today, gig racing is fiercely contested across the South West of England, with clubs emerging all across the World.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A very knowledgeable team at Kabincraft made this two hour row extremely enjoyable, safe and a lot of fun! It was good exercise but always at a rate the crew could cope with.

New Rower – Tom

Rating: 5 out of 5.

We went out (two adults and one 13yo girl) rowing with Liam as total newbies. Liam was really clear giving instructions and he tailored the experience to suit both adults/teenagers.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Great row and workout. We really got the boat moving fast and the local sights are truly best seen from the water.
